FOREVERWISP · HELP & INFORMATION

Controls manual

Choose a ForeverWisp guide, find your next step and get back to playing.

Start with a controller

Use WoW Forever’s native controller UI with ForeverWisp 0.28.7 beta or later and compatible guides installed. Check that your controller can navigate the game’s own menus first. ConsolePort is optional; its separate limitations are below.

  1. Open ForeverWisp. Open the controller menu and choose Game Menu—WoW’s menu with settings and logout. Move down to ForeverWisp, just below AddOns, then confirm with the bottom face button. On a fresh profile, setup may already be open.
  2. Choose your setup. Select Use recommended settings, or Customise and then Save and continue. Recommended settings enable quest tracking, automatic progression, directions, and accepting and turning in guide quests when you talk to an NPC. You still choose quest rewards. Not now continues with the current settings.
  3. Find a suitable guide. In Library, use For this character and a category such as Levelling or Professions. Move through the guide rows and page controls with the D-pad. Select a guide to read its preview; previewing does not switch your active guide.
  4. Review and start. Read the requirements and confirm Start guide or Continue guide. If you see Start from recommendation, review the proposed starting point; Start from first unfinished quest is the alternative. Wait if the preview is still checking quest history. Back returns to the library without starting.
  5. Return to gameplay. If a profession invitation appears, choose an option or dismiss it with Back. Then press Back until the controller hint strip disappears. The guide stays visible and keeps tracking your quests. No guide ID, macro or extra addon is needed to start an installed guide.

Button reference

These controls apply while ForeverWisp’s controller hints are visible. The mint outline marks your selection, and the hint strip names it. Follow the in-game button symbols for your controller.

Native controller preview controls
ControlAction
D-pad down or rightMove to the next available control.
D-pad up or leftMove to the previous available control.
Bottom face buttonSelect the outlined control. Usually A on Xbox or × on PlayStation.
Right face buttonGo back or dismiss a prompt. Usually B on Xbox or ○ on PlayStation.
Left / right shoulderScroll the focused text or list up / down. LB / RB on Xbox; L1 / R1 on PlayStation.

While these hints are visible, ForeverWisp temporarily captures the D-pad, shoulders and all four face buttons, including modifier combinations. The left and top face buttons are reserved and do nothing. Your saved bindings, stick axes and native menu button are unchanged. Press Back until the hints disappear to return those buttons to gameplay.

D-pad navigation follows reading order, one press at a time. Down and right both move forward; they do not always move to the nearest button in that direction. Disabled controls are skipped, and offscreen rows scroll into view as you reach them.

For a long description, focus its Read more / scroll area before using the shoulders. The shoulders scroll that area, not the whole window. The preview does not add stick navigation or held D-pad repeat.

Follow and change guides

Reopen your current guide

Use Game Menu → ForeverWisp again, including when the guide panel is hidden. With an eligible guide selected, this opens its controls. Back releases them to gameplay; reopening is an explicit choice.

Switch guides and keep your place

Select Guide → Library, preview another suitable guide and start it. To return, select the earlier guide and choose Continue guide. Switching guides keeps their saved progress. You do not need to reset a guide or delete saved files.

Read ahead or handle a step

Use Guide to reach Chapters and step controls. Previous and next controls preview steps inside the small frame without completing them. Back or Back to current step leaves that preview. Details and nearby-quest controls expand the instructions; contextual actions offer help for the current step.

Quest tracking normally advances the route as you play. Complete step and Reopen step are manual guide overrides: they do not complete or undo a quest in WoW. Use Follow automatically when you want to leave a manual preview and resume live guidance.

Back cancels a pending guide reset or profession-removal confirmation. Read the selected action before confirming; an explicit guide reset removes that guide’s recorded progress.

Settings and quest items

Open Game Menu → ForeverWisp → Guide → Settings. Choose Appearance, Questing, Navigation or Party. Confirm toggles a setting; the − and + buttons adjust values. In Appearance, use Panel scale, Step text size and Centre panel to improve readability.

Outside combat, focus a visible quest-item, target-name or Hearthstone control and confirm to use it. Normal item availability, cooldown and range rules still apply. Targeting an NPC does not interact with them; use your normal game interaction control afterward.

When combat begins, the preview is designed to close its guide controls and give inputs back to gameplay. Quest-item, targeting and Hearthstone controls are unavailable in combat. After combat, reopen ForeverWisp through the Game Menu. This input handover still needs an in-game controller check.

Mouse and keyboard

Click the guide panel’s Guide button to open Chapters, Library, Professions, Tools and Settings. Click a guide row to preview it, then its start or continue button. Use the mouse wheel over long text and lists.

These commands are optional shortcuts:

/foreverwisp
Show or hide the guide panel.
/foreverwisp library
Open guide selection.
/foreverwisp settings
Open settings.
/foreverwisp resume
Resume automatic quest tracking.

In WoW’s Key Bindings, find ForeverWisp to assign show/hide, complete/reopen step, previous/next preview, details and current-guide help. The beta adds optional Open guide library and Open ForeverWisp controls bindings. They start unassigned; your existing shortcuts are kept.

In the preview, clicking Game Menu → ForeverWisp with native controller UI off opens the Library. Mouse players also see a Clear button beside guide search. Controller hints stay off when native controller UI is disabled.

Troubleshooting and limits

No ForeverWisp button in the Game Menu?

Check that ForeverWisp 0.28.7 beta or later is installed and enabled, then fully restart WoW after updating. For the controller path, native controller UI must be enabled; the exact menu navigation remains unverified in game.

No suitable guide, or Start is unavailable?

Use Clear to remove any search text, check the category and page, and read the guide’s requirements. An incompatible character, unavailable account access or unresolved quest history can prevent starting. The public beta includes the free starter and gathering guides. Purchased guides use separate personal packs; keep those compatible packs installed. Installation and account help explains how to add them.

Controls still seem captured?

Dismiss any open prompt, then keep pressing Back until the ForeverWisp hint strip disappears. A prompt and the guide controls may each need a separate Back press. Opening a native game window also releases ForeverWisp’s controls. If normal gameplay inputs do not return, treat that as a preview bug and report it.

What about ConsolePort?

ConsolePort support is partial and unverified. With native controller UI off, the preview makes the library and dialogs available to ConsolePort’s cursor. The persistent guide panel and its quest-item controls are not integrated with that cursor. The native button table above does not describe ConsolePort’s bindings, and a complete ConsolePort-only journey has not been established.

What still needs a mouse or text input?

  • Typing a search, writing feedback and copying a diagnostic report. Guide selection also works through categories and paging without typing.
  • Freely dragging the panel, browser, arrow or minimap launcher. Size settings and Centre panel are controller-accessible.
  • Map/minimap pin clicks and hover details, minimap right-click shortcuts, and sharing from a level-up celebration card.

WoW’s quest rewards, bags, map and other game windows use the game’s own controls. Website sign-in, downloads and account setup are separate from the in-game controller flow.

Report a controller problem with your controller model, operating system, WoW build, ForeverWisp version, whether native controller UI or ConsolePort was active, and the action that failed. A short recording helps show where focus or input went wrong.
