WoW Forever flight paths: the Thunder Bluff to Ratchet detour

A new flight-path report compares Thunder Bluff to Ratchet with a Crossroads stop. See the maps, reported fares and ways to plan travel while leveling.

Why does the Ratchet flight take that route?

WoW Forever’s flight paths are getting attention after Wowhead highlighted a detour between Thunder Bluff and Ratchet. In the reported example, booking straight through sends the flight south via Camp Taurajo. Booking to the Crossroads instead avoids that southern leg.

That makes the Crossroads worth checking before your next trip to Ratchet. It does not establish a universal fastest route, and the report is an editorial comparison rather than a Blizzard fix announcement.

What the reported fares show

Wowhead gives a through fare of 2 silver 97 copper, compared with 2 silver 09 copper for a journey split at the Crossroads. That is an 88-copper difference in this example. Check the price on your own flight map before buying.

The screenshots make the routing difference easy to see. They do not supply a timed comparison covering both flights, the landing and the second booking.

Make the journey useful, even when the flight is awkward

A flight can be cheap and still be a poor use of your session if it takes you away from several unfinished quests. Before leaving a hub, look at where your next few hand-ins are. A short detour on foot can be worthwhile if it finishes work you would otherwise return for later.

Use these checks when deciding whether to split a flight or carry on with your current route.

  • Compare the fare and connections shown on your own flight map. A route that needs a locked connection is not an option yet.
  • Include the landing and rebooking time when comparing two flights with one through booking.
  • Combine a planned town visit with bags, repairs, training or quest hand-ins when you need them.
  • Unlock flight points you pass on your normal route. Do not turn a short questing session into a continent-wide unlock trip unless that is your goal.
  • Check where your hearthstone returns you before committing to the outward journey.

Where a leveling guide helps

An in-game leveling guide can keep the next supported quest and its location in view while you travel. Wisp’s navigation helps you follow that step, but it does not change Blizzard’s flight network or promise to find the cheapest fare.

Use the written route to see the next part of your journey, then use the addon if you want those instructions beside your character. For this particular detour, the useful habit is simple: check the connection before boarding.
