WoW Forever Rogue leveling changes: poisons, Sap and axes

See what Blizzard’s Rogue deep dive means for leveling in WoW Forever, from poison and weapon choices to safer pulls and the new 16-point talents.

Rogue leveling has more room for preparation

Blizzard’s October 7 Rogue deep dive gives solo questers and dungeon groups several useful changes to work with. Poisons have more charges and can coexist with temporary weapon enhancements such as Sharpening Stones. Sap keeps you in Stealth, and Rogues can learn one-handed axes.

For your next leveling session, start with the abilities you already have. A revised class overview is not a list of everything a new character can use at level 1. Check your spellbook and trainer before buying supplies for an ability you have not learned.

Check your weapon before buying the consumable

The poison change gives you another preparation choice when you leave town. Our suggestion is to check both hands, the supplies in your bags and the description of any temporary enhancement before spending gold. A weapon upgrade can be useful without justifying an expensive consumable for every ordinary quest mob.

One-handed axes widen the equipment you can consider. Keep ability requirements in the decision, though. Mutilate is a 21-point Assassination talent that requires a dagger in each hand.

If you want to try Mutilate, keep usable daggers before changing talents. If you prefer another approach, compare weapons around the attacks you actually press. A larger damage number on an incompatible weapon will not help the plan you had in mind.

Use Sap to make a crowded pull more manageable

Distract reduces affected enemies’ Stealth detection for 10 seconds. Combined with the baseline Sap change, that gives you tools to prepare a pull without spending talents just to keep Stealth after Sap.

In a group, mark the target and tell the tank what you intend to control before the pull begins. Give the party time to respond. An agreed plan is much more useful than surprising everyone with a target they were about to attack.

While questing alone, look at patrols and your retreat path before approaching a cluster. Crowd control is a way to make a particular encounter manageable. It is not a reason to assume that every crowded camp is now safe.

Three 16-point choices worth understanding

The deep dive places Cold Blood, Flawless Execution and Premeditation at the 16-point milestones in their respective trees. Flawless Execution reduces Eviscerate’s Energy cost by 10. Premeditation’s duration becomes 20 seconds.

Choose around the part of questing you want to improve. Think about how you open a fight, which finishers you use and whether you spend most of the session alone or with a party. The existence of an earlier milestone does not establish a single best leveling build.

Our talent guide covers the wider trees. Use this article for the practical changes highlighted in the new announcement, then check the current in-game tooltip before committing points.

Keep your race route and Rogue tasks together

Choose the written leveling route for your race and select Rogue in its class controls. Before leaving a quest hub, check your class objectives alongside nearby hand-ins so you can decide which trips belong together.

If you prefer the directions in game, Wisp provides supported quest steps and navigation. Use the route to keep track of where you are going, then choose pulls and abilities to suit your character.
