WoW Forever solo battleground queues: premades and playing with friends

Blizzard plans to separate solo battleground players from premades in WoW Forever. Here is what has been announced and what remains undecided for small groups.

Will solo players face premades?

Blizzard’s announced direction is to keep solo battleground players from being matched against premade teams in WoW Forever. Wowhead’s new report of the PvP podcast says premades will instead face other premades.

The part still being worked out is small groups. Josh Greenfield discussed an option for friends queueing together, potentially two or three players. That size is not final.

QuestionWhat the report establishes
Solo players against full premades? The announced plan is to separate them.
Can a few friends still queue together?A small-group option is planned, but the final group limit is undecided.
Can a long wait override the separation? The report does not establish whether Forever will have such a fallback.

How to plan an evening with friends

For now, avoid arranging a group around an assumed three-player cutoff. Wait for the final queue rules, then check how your party fits. A pair of friends and a full organized team may end up using different options.

It helps to agree on the kind of session you want. Are you learning the objectives, trying to win with a coordinated group, or taking a break from questing? That conversation is useful even before the matchmaking details are settled.

These announcements concern battleground matchmaking. They do not describe a matchmaking system for outdoor encounters or the tournament’s duels.

Keep your next quest easy to find

If you are mixing questing with PvP, finish at a convenient stopping point and note your next pickup or hand-in. When you return, check your quest log before following the next route step. Your friends may have completed different objectives while you were away.
