WoW Forever dual spec: unlock level, cost and what to plan now
When does dual spec unlock in WoW Forever? Blizzard says level 40 for now and is discussing an earlier level. What is confirmed, what it might cost and how to plan your builds.
When does dual spec unlock in WoW Forever?
At level 40, for now. Blizzard’s September 30 class deep dives say Dual Specialization becomes available at level 40.
That may change. Wowhead reported on October 10 that, in episode 3 of the WoW Forever podcast, Blizzard’s Josh Greenfield said 40 is the current setting and the team is discussing the right level, with 30 floated as a possibility. Nothing has been announced, and Blizzard has not published a dual spec price.

What is confirmed so far
Only the unlock level comes from Blizzard’s published posts. The possible change comes from a podcast discussion, as reported by Wowhead.
| Question | Current answer | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Unlock level | Level 40 | Blizzard class deep dives, September 30 |
| Could it unlock earlier? | Under discussion, with 30 mentioned | Wowhead report of the podcast, October 10 |
| Where you change talents | A class trainer in one of the major cities | Blizzard class deep dives, September 30 |
| Dual spec price | Not announced | No source yet |
| Can you test it in the beta now? | Not at level 40, because the beta cap is 30 | October 1 notes |
How much will dual spec cost?
Blizzard has not said. Prices from other versions of WoW are not a guide to Forever, so we are not quoting a figure.
Do not confuse dual spec with the beta respec price. Since September 24, resetting your talents costs 1 silver if you have not changed them recently. Blizzard says this is temporary and only for the beta. A second reset soon after costs much more, then drops back to 1 silver after an hour.
Why the unlock level matters
The podcast discussion came up while the team was talking about tanks and whether you should need a tank-specific build to run dungeons. With dual spec at 40, a tank or healer who levels with a damage build must visit a capital trainer and respec before each dungeon, then respec again to quest.
Wowhead points out that an earlier unlock would let players keep a separate build for dungeons. For a Warrior, Paladin or Druid who wants to tank dungeons from the 20s, that is the main reason to watch for a change.
What to plan now
You can prepare without knowing the final level or price.
- Choose a questing build first. That is the one you will use most before dual spec unlocks.
- Save a second build for dungeons with a date beside it, so you can see what changed when Blizzard updates the trees.
- Until dual spec unlocks, plan respecs around trips to a capital, where class trainers are.
- Use View Talents on other players in your group to see which builds they bring.
- Do not buy gear for a second role on the assumption that dual spec will arrive at 30.
What we do not know yet
Blizzard has not confirmed the final unlock level, the price or how dual spec works with Legacy talents, which you also change at a class trainer. ForeverWisp has not used dual spec in the beta, and nobody can there while the cap is 30.
