WoW Forever profession census: what 2,001 beta crafters can tell us

A new community census shows which crafting professions players are using in the Forever beta. Read the figures, their limits and how to choose a profession for leveling.

Leatherworking leads this beta sample

A new community profession census puts Leatherworking ahead of the other recorded crafting professions. When we checked on October 6, Linked Inn’s dashboard covered 2,001 Alliance crafters on a PvP realm. It is a useful snapshot of those characters, not a ranking of the best professions or a census of every Forever realm.

The Reddit announcement started with 1,223 crafters, then the author expanded the dataset. The figures below use the later 2,001-crafter dashboard. Mixing the original post’s counts with the updated chart would give a misleading comparison.

What the updated chart shows

The six displayed counts total 2,356 profession entries. A character can contribute more than one crafting profession, so the chart’s percentages should not be read as percentages of all 2,001 characters. Gathering and secondary professions are outside this comparison.

Popular does not mean best for your character

Treat these numbers as a question to investigate. They show what was observed, not why each player chose it. The sample does not measure profits, sales, time spent gathering or the value of an item to your class. It also cannot tell you how profession choices will change after beta.

For example, a smaller Alchemy count does not establish an easy goldmaking opportunity. You would still need to compare reagent costs, the potions people actually buy and the price buyers will pay on your realm. A large Leatherworking count does not tell you whether its useful recipes are affordable or accessible to you.

The same caution applies to claims in the comments. A discussion about a possible passive bonus is not a substitute for a current tooltip or an official announcement. Check the particular recipe or benefit you want before changing a profession.

Choose around what you want to make

Pick one concrete goal first, such as crafting a useful piece for your next few levels or supplying consumables for your group. Check the recipe’s skill requirement, where it comes from and whether the finished item can be traded. Then decide whether learning the profession makes more sense than buying the item from a crafter.

Next, look at the materials. A profession is easier to keep up with when its gathering fits the enemies and zones you already visit. If it repeatedly takes you away from the part of the game you enjoy, pause the project or save materials until your next town visit.

For friends leveling together, compare your actual needs before all choosing the same craft. Sharing materials or finding a known crafter can be more useful than trying to mirror a popularity chart. Agree who needs an upgrade now and what can wait.

Bring gathering into the journey

Wisp supports profession guides alongside compatible leveling routes, with trainer stops and gathering reminders woven into the journey. You can also follow a profession guide separately. Check the gathering guide page for the available coverage before choosing a pack.

That helps with planning your stops. It does not turn this community sample into a promised income or a universal best-profession list.
