WoW Forever scarce materials: Pyrite, Frilled Lichen and Pristine Leather
Found a scarce material while leveling in WoW Forever? Check where Pyrite, Frilled Lichen and Pristine Leather come from and their crafting uses.
What does Scarce mean on a gathering material?
Pyrite, Frilled Lichen and Pristine Leather are crafting reagents you can find while gathering in the WoW Forever beta. Icy Veins’ September 29 report describes them as extra finds from gathering and skinning, rather than materials with their own dedicated nodes.
If one lands in your bags during a quest, check what it makes before selling it. The Scarce label does not tell you the current auction price or guarantee that it is useful to your chosen profession.

What is Pyrite used for?
The Forever Pyrite record lists recipes including Shining Boots, Shining Gloves, Sulfuric Acid and several enchants. Do not assume a miner’s extra material is only useful to a Blacksmith.
One player reports finding Pyrite in a Copper Vein in Elwynn. That is a useful early-zone sighting, but it does not establish a drop chance or make every Copper Vein a dependable source. Keep mining the nodes that fit your journey instead of planning around a guaranteed Pyrite drop.
Why keep Frilled Lichen?
Its current reagent list includes Cerulean Dye in Alchemy and Enchant Weapon: Insight in Enchanting. Check the dye recipe if you are coordinating materials with a crafter, rather than assuming an herb has to become a potion.
Player comments report finding it from Earthroot and Briarthorn. One Earthroot report names Herbalism skill 33. That is an observation, not a verified minimum skill requirement. We have not established which lower-level herbs can produce it.
Can you find Pristine Leather before level 20?
Player reports say yes. Examples on the Forever item page include a level 13 character skinning a Westfall boar with Skinning 75, and a level 14 or 15 crocodile at skill 108. These are individual sightings, so they do not establish a required level or an efficient farming spot.
Pristine Leather is a separate reagent from ordinary Light or Medium Leather. Look for its exact name in the recipe you want. Save the quantity you need and decide what to do with the rest when you return to town.
Fit gathering around the quests you are already doing
Pick one craft, track its ingredients in the profession window and make nearby gathering stops part of your outing. If the remaining reagent requires a long detour, leave it for another session or compare the cost of buying it. There is no need to turn every unusual drop into a new farming project.
