RestedXP vs Wisp: a WoW Forever leveling guide alternative
RestedXP or Wisp for WoW Forever? Compare what each in-game leveling guide covers today, what you can try for free and what is still in progress.
RestedXP or Wisp: the short answer
Both are in-game leveling guides that put WoW Forever quests in order for you. RestedXP is a paid speedrun guide. Its author reports levels 1–35 as finished for both factions, including the Skyborne start. Wisp is free to download with eight starting routes towards level 20, and its Alliance and Horde 20–35 guides are paid.
We make Wisp. RestedXP’s features and coverage come from its author’s pages, checked October 21. We have not run the two guides side by side in game.

When RestedXP is the better choice
RestedXP suits players who want a speedrun route with the most finished Forever levels today and are happy to buy before they start.
- You want one guide from level 1 to 35 now. RestedXP reports that range as finished.
- You plan to keep going past 35 at launch and are happy to follow its Era routes until its Forever 35–60 routes arrive.
- You want its dungeon leveling guide when it is ready.
- You already use the RestedXP Guide addon in another version of WoW. It has a WoW Forever file, updated October 17.
When Wisp is the better choice
Wisp suits players who want to try a full route first and keep more of their leveling in one addon.
- You want to try a guide before paying. All eight starting routes towards level 20 are free, including Skyborne for both factions.
- You level with friends. Party sharing shows who still needs kills or items, and each player keeps their own quest progress.
- You want gathering on the way. Free Mining, Herbalism and Skinning guides to skill 150 add trainer stops and gathering reminders to your route.
- You want talent builds in the same addon. Wisp has 28 builds across all nine classes, checked against Forever build 1.60.1.70450. The new orders have not been tested in game.
What about levels 35 to 60?
Neither guide has Forever routes past level 35 yet. RestedXP says its Forever 35–60 routes come after launch and its Era guides cover those levels in the meantime. Wisp’s 20–35 guides come with a 20–60 pre-order or the launch collection, and the later 35–60 bands arrive when they are released.
Blizzard has shown new leveling areas past level 30, such as the Riverglades. A route written for Classic Era may not use them. Check each guide’s coverage notes before you rely on it for those levels.
Pick one route guide at a time
If you already own RestedXP, you do not need Wisp’s route as well. Two route guides running at once can point you at different quests, and both may try to accept or turn in for you. Choose one to follow, and turn off quest automation in the other.
If you are still deciding, install Wisp’s free download and play your starting zone with it. You can read every free route on our site first, without installing anything.
