Questie vs Wisp in WoW Forever: map markers or a guided route?

Questie shows where quests are. Wisp puts them in order. Compare the two WoW Forever addons, what each does well and what to check if you run both.

Questie or Wisp: the short answer

They answer different questions. Questie shows where quests are: start points, turn-ins and objectives on your map, with a quest tracker. Which quest to do next is up to you. Wisp puts quests in order for your character and keeps the current step, directions and nearby objectives beside you.

Official Questie supports WoW Forever. On October 21 its latest release was still 12.1.0 with QuestieDB 1.0.6, published October 12. Wisp does not need Questie. We make Wisp. Questie’s features come from its authors’ pages, and we have not tested every combination of the two in game.

When Questie is the better choice

Questie suits players who like to explore a zone and pick their own quests, with the map doing the searching.

  • You want to see every quest available in a zone and choose for yourself.
  • You want map help at every level, not only the levels a route covers.
  • You want a record of your journey and a searchable quest database.
  • You want free help past level 20.

When Wisp is the better choice

Wisp suits players who would rather follow a plan than build one, especially early on.

  • You do not want to decide which quest comes next, or work out the turn-in run yourself.
  • You want nearby objectives kept together so you can work on them during the same trip.
  • You want the next step and an arrow on screen without opening your map.
  • You want profession and talent guidance in the same addon as your route.

Can you run Questie and Wisp together?

Wisp does not need Questie. If you want Questie’s map pins alongside Wisp’s route, install the Forever release of each and check these settings before you start. We have not tested every combination in game.

  • Let one addon accept and turn in quests. In Wisp, switch this off in the Tools tab or hold Shift while you talk to the NPC.
  • Decide which quest list you want on screen. Questie’s tracker and Wisp’s guide panel can both show your objectives, and /questie opens Questie’s settings.
  • If a marker is missing, check Questie’s latest release notes before you assume the quest is broken.
