WoW Forever Skinning change: one corpse, one skinner

Group Skinning no longer gives every player a separate skin. What the beta fix means for leveling with friends, Leatherworking materials and gathering plans.

Can everyone in a party still skin the same beast?

No. Blizzard’s October 1 beta notes say a creature disappears after it has been skinned once. Wowhead’s October 2 report highlights the end of the earlier behaviour where multiple party members could each skin the same corpse.

For a group leveling together, that means you should plan around one skinning action from each eligible kill. It does not mean a guaranteed single piece of leather. The change concerns how many players can skin the corpse, not a fixed item yield.

Agree how to share the work before the next quest

If two friends both have Skinning, we suggest taking turns on eligible corpses or agreeing who is collecting materials for the next craft. Decide that before a beast-heavy quest so nobody waits for a second skin that will never become available.

One player gathering for a group’s Leatherworking project may be enough for your current plans. Equally, you may both want the profession for solo sessions. This fix is a reason to coordinate, not a reason to delete a profession you enjoy.

  • Tell your party which materials you need for your next recipe.
  • Divide the eligible kills or agree how to share the collected leather.
  • Check your actual haul after the outing before promising materials for several crafts.

Keep Skinning alongside the quests you already need

Skinning still fits naturally beside quests that send you after beasts. Our recommendation is to gather from the kills on your route, then see how much progress that makes towards a useful craft before scheduling a separate farming session.

The correction removes a source of repeated gathering from the same corpse. It does not establish a new leather drop rate, a guaranteed gold return or a best farming zone. Auction prices will also depend on your realm and the material, so check current listings rather than assuming every leather price must rise.

Why older beta tips say something different

Our September roundup recorded a player report of shared Skinning. That was an observation from an earlier build. We have updated it to point to the confirmed one-skin rule, so new characters are not sent out with an outdated group-farming plan.

If you use a leveling addon, keep your quest route and profession expectations separate. A step telling you to kill beasts does not promise that every party member can gather from each body. Use the current client behaviour when deciding who skins.
