WoW Forever beta changes explained: bigger bank, lost-loot mail, per-player skinning and faster auto-shot
What changed in the WoW Forever beta this week: 48 bank slots, Steamwheedle Lost and Found mail, per-player skinning, faster Hunter auto-shot and wands, the new character panel, and why the XP-curve report was retracted.

What changed, and how sure are we?
The beta produced a cluster of quality-of-life findings on September 21. Some are Blizzard statements, some are Wowhead observations of the client and some are single player threads. The table separates them so you can decide how much to plan around each one.
| Change | Reported by | What it means for your session |
|---|---|---|
| Bank doubled to 48 slots, 8 bag slots | Wowhead client observation | More room for profession materials and situational gear. |
| Unlooted dungeon items mailed to you | Wowhead client observation | Check your mailbox after a run, and check the right character. |
| Per-player skinning on shared corpses | One Reddit screenshot | Do not build a gold plan on it until tested more widely. |
| Shorter hidden cast on auto-shot and wands | Wowhead with player videos | Kiting and wand finishing feel different from Classic. |
| Character panel explains every stat | Wowhead client observation | Read tooltips before asking for hit or crit numbers. |
| Dungeon ring pairs with a level 60 epic | Wowhead client observation | Keep half-sets rather than vendoring them. |
| EU routing fixes deployed | Blizzard statement via Wowhead | Retest latency before changing your own network setup. |
| Lower XP requirements | Retracted by Wowhead | Nothing changed. Plan with the Classic curve. |
Bank space: 48 default slots and eight bag slots
Wowhead reports that the default bank now holds 48 items, double the Classic starting space, and that bank bag slots rise from six to eight. Its article links this to Forever’s situational gear, where different sets suit different zones or enemies, and notes an earlier MMORPG interview in which Blizzard expected to add space later if players need it.
For levelling, the practical effect is that you can keep a second weapon or a conditional set piece without dropping profession materials. Our early-bags guide covers the free bag quests that matter more in the first ten levels than the bank does.
Forgotten dungeon loot arrives by mail
Items you win but fail to loot inside an instance are now mailed to you by Rix Xizzix of the Steamwheedle Lost and Found, a system players may remember from Season of Discovery. Wowhead observed the letter in the beta; it is not described in patch notes we have seen.
Combine this with the reported mail-routing problem before you rely on it. If another of your characters shares a first name with the dungeon runner, the letter may not land where you expect. Our names article explains the reports and what to check.
Skinning: one corpse, one skin per skinner?
A September 21 r/classicwow screenshot from a Wailing Caverns run claims that each skinner in a group could skin the same beast, with the corpse disappearing separately for each player. The thread drew almost 400 comments, and the most-upvoted reply asks whether mining and herbalism nodes behave the same way. Nobody in the thread answered that with evidence.
This is a single report from one dungeon. We have not tested it in the open world, on rare beasts or with players outside the group. If it holds, skinning competition changes considerably; until then, keep it out of your gold-making assumptions and read our Skinning guide for the parts that are established.
Hunter auto-shot and wands fire sooner
Wowhead reports that the hidden cast time before an auto-shot or wand attack has been greatly reduced. You still need to stop moving, but only briefly. The article points to two comparison videos posted by a Reddit user showing Forever and Classic side by side.
For a levelling Hunter this makes kiting smoother; for any caster it makes wand finishing less awkward when mana is low. Neither report gives a measured duration, so treat the change as a feel improvement until someone times it.
The character panel now explains each stat
Hovering over a stat in the updated character panel gives a full description of what it does and, for hit chance, how much is needed against enemies of particular levels. Wowhead notes the tooltips also cover critical-strike and crushing-blow immunity for tanks, and reminds readers that Forever applies hit and crit across every school rather than separating melee, ranged and spells.
Our gear and stat article covers the design behind that unification. Use the in-game tooltip as the current source for exact thresholds, because it reflects your character and build.
Spell power reports: Shadow Bolt and Thorns
Two well-upvoted threads compare Forever spell scaling with Classic. One shows a rank 4 Shadow Bolt with 48 spell power alongside the Classic value; another shows Thorns damage growing with spell power gear. Commenters point out that the Thorns video hides enemy nameplates and stacks many buffs, and one reply claims base damage was reduced for hybrid spells such as Wrath and Lightning Bolt to balance the gear scaling.
These are player comparisons without controlled conditions, and the hybrid-damage claim is unsourced. Our Warlock beta article records what we could confirm about early Warlock changes. Record base damage, spell power and target level together if you want to test this yourself.
Feral Druids using Thistle Tea and Rage Potions
A gallery posted on September 21 shows a Feral Druid drinking Thistle Tea and a Rage Potion while shapeshifted. In Classic those items served Rogues and Warriors; if the beta behaviour stands, Feral energy and rage management gain two consumables. The top reply expects a noticeable effect in PvP.
We have not reproduced this, and beta consumable rules can change between builds. Check the item tooltip on a Druid before buying materials for either recipe.
A Deadmines ring that pairs with a level 60 epic
Wowhead reports a two-piece set called The First Mate Band, with one ring dropping from Mr. Smite in the Deadmines and an epic partner that is a level 60 item. The visible bonus is a strength proc and a flat strength gain. Where the second ring comes from is not yet known.
The practical lesson is to keep low-level set pieces rather than selling them once outgrown, which is one more reason the larger bank matters. Our dungeon-set guide explains how to weigh a set bonus against an ordinary upgrade.
EU latency: what Blizzard says it fixed
In a statement quoted by Wowhead, Blizzard says it implemented routing improvements for the EU beta over the previous 24 hours after early problems with movement, interaction and disconnects. It adds that some remaining issues sit with internet providers or with players’ own firewall software, and that it will keep monitoring.
If you changed DNS or VPN settings to cope, test again without them before assuming the fix did not reach you. Keep a note of the time, your region and the symptom for any report you make.
Experience requirements have not changed
On September 21 Wowhead published a table suggesting Forever needed far less experience to reach 60, then retracted it the same day. The correction, from Wowhead’s content lead, says Blizzard confirmed there are no changes to the experience amounts required to level; the datamined file was not the one the game uses. The article remains online with the correction at the top.
Plan your levelling with the Classic curve. Forever’s pace changes come from dungeon quest rewards, new quests and route design, which our dungeon XP and levelling guides already cover, not from cheaper levels.
