Life Tap, Drain Soul and Banes are the useful starting points
The Warlock spellbook extracted by ForeverChanges contains changes to resource recovery and debuffs. Its comparison uses Forever build 1.60.1.69893 and Classic Era 1.15.9.69722; we have not tested these interactions in game.
| Spell or system | What the extracted tooltip says |
|---|---|
| Life Tap | Rank 6 exchanges 420 Health for 840 Mana and names Spirit as a modifier. This is a level-56 example, not a starting-character value. |
| Drain Soul | Damaging a non-trivial target can generate a Soul Shard; a qualifying Drain Soul kill guarantees one. |
| Bane of Agony / Bane of Doom | The former Curse spells use Bane names and a one-Bane limit. Other Curse tooltips retain their own limit. |
| Curse of the Elements | The first rank appears at level 20, and the wording covers Magic rather than only Fire and Frost. |
What changes in a levelling plan?
Our first test would be recovery between ordinary pulls. Record your Health and Mana before tapping, after tapping and after the next fight. Include food, drinks and pet recovery in the result. A larger Mana return is useful only in the context of the Health and time spent restoring it.
Keep a modest reserve of shards before leaving town, then observe how quickly your normal play replenishes it. Test a Bane alongside a utility Curse and check whether both remain on the target. The separate tooltip limits make that interaction worth investigating; they do not replace observing the current client.
For trainer visits, distinguish the earliest spell rank from the high-level rank used in a comparison. A level-56 number cannot tell you the exact benefit of a level-6 visit. Finish nearby objectives before deciding whether a dedicated trip is worthwhile.
Affliction adds several resource and damage-over-time choices
The talent extract lists Soul Harvesting in tier 2, granting temporary Mana-regeneration benefits after a Drain Soul kill. Improved Drains supports drain spells and Wrack. Nightfall includes more triggering spells, while tier-7 Wrack is a new Shadow effect that also amplifies the caster’s other Shadow damage-over-time effects.
These are examples from different tree depths, not a build that a new character can take all at once. Our suggestion is to compare one talent change at a time using the same enemy type, pet and equipment. Save the point allocation alongside the client build so a later change does not invalidate the comparison unnoticed.
Later utility: weapon stones and a summoning portal
The spellbook describes Firestone and Spellstone as weapon enhancements. It also lists Portal of Summoning at level 60 alongside the earlier Ritual of Summoning.
Does this establish the best Warlock levelling build?
No. Extracted spell values are base data before character modifiers and level scaling. A smaller number in one field is not, by itself, a measured damage nerf. Nor does a promising recovery talent establish the fastest route or safest pull size.
A useful first comparison is a short stretch of solo questing, followed by a separate dungeon session if that is how you intend to play. Keep deaths, interruptions and recovery in the log. Choose a build you can operate reliably before using a damage estimate to justify harder pulls.
- Record level, build, talents, pet and equipment.
- Check the spell rank actually available to your character.
- Measure a complete series of pulls, including recovery.
- Keep solo results separate from group results.
