WoW Forever Hall of Thanes dungeon guide: entrance, quests and bosses
Find the Hall of Thanes entrance beneath Ironforge, collect the right quests first and prepare for each boss in WoW Forever’s new 13–18 dungeon.
Hall of Thanes at a glance
Hall of Thanes, or HoT, is the first new dungeon most Alliance players will reach in Forever. It lies in Old Ironforge, beneath the High Seat, where Dark Iron dwarves have broken into the tombs of Ironforge’s kings. Blizzard lists it for levels 13–18.
Wowhead’s Forever database lists its quests at level 15–16, and some can be picked up from level 9 or 10. Most quests are Alliance only, so it is best suited to Alliance characters levelling through Dun Morogh and Loch Modan.

Where is the Hall of Thanes entrance?
Go to the High Seat, where King Magni Bronzebeard stands. As you enter, take the open door immediately on your left. Follow the path down through Old Ironforge to the portal at the bottom.
Old Ironforge is also where two of the quest givers stand, so you can collect those quests on the way down.
Can Horde players do Hall of Thanes?
Yes, but it is a long trip. Wowhead describes a trek from Tarren Mill through Arathi Highlands, the Wetlands and Loch Modan into Dun Morogh, with no known shortcut. You then have to get through Ironforge itself. Wowhead suggests unequipping your gear before running past the guards, so a death does not damage it.
Horde players also have fewer quests to do there. Wowhead’s database lists An Ancient Grudge for both factions and Important Heirlooms as Alliance only, although its dungeon guide says Heirlooms is available to both. We think most Horde characters are better off waiting for Ruins of Lordaeron.
Hall of Thanes quests
Old Ironforge Incursion has the best rewards, so it is worth picking up before you go. It starts with Earthseer Farsen at Gol’Bolar Quarry in Dun Morogh and ends with King Magni. Wowhead’s database also lists a quest called Underground Map, which starts from a Dark Iron Map and is handed in to Farsen. Treat that as a possible way into the chain.
Two quests begin inside the dungeon. An Ancient Grudge comes from a Ghostly Attendant in Anvilmar’s Rest. The Treaty of Understanding starts from an item in a vault in the final room, the Reliquary of Kings, and is handed in to Magni.
| Quest | Where it starts | What to do | Reward choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Old Ironforge Incursion | Earthseer Farsen, Gol’Bolar Quarry, Dun Morogh | Bring back the head of Durgen Dirgehammer | Calibrated Blunderbuss, Ironforge Greathammer or Deepblaze |
| Important Heirlooms | Thom Filch, Old Ironforge | Collect 8 Dwarven Heirlooms | Dwarven Tome or Tomb Robber’s Gloves |
| The Restless Dead | Afadra Dunwall, Old Ironforge | Defeat 15 Enraged Apparitions and 10 Tormented Souls, and lay Anvilmar’s spirit to rest | Dusty Belt or Cryptwalker Bracers |
| An Ancient Grudge | Ghostly Attendant, Anvilmar’s Rest | Put the spirit of Faldrim Anvilmar to rest | Catacomb Cloak or Deepgrave Trousers |
| The Treaty of Understanding | An item in the Reliquary of Kings | Deliver the treaty to King Magni | No item choice listed |
Where are the Dwarven Heirlooms?
Wowhead says the vaults in the Reliquary of Kings hold enough Dwarven Heirlooms for a full group of five. Check the vaults together after the final fight, and make sure everyone with the quest has looted before you leave.
Dangerous enemies on the way
The trash in Hall of Thanes can be harder than the bosses for an early group. Wowhead highlights four enemy types to plan around.
- Dark Iron Looters hit quickly with daggers. Keep them on the tank.
- Dark Iron Engineers throw bombs at a location. Step out of the target area.
- Dark Iron Summoners cast Fireball and bring a Fiery Assistant. Use line of sight to pull them to you.
- Lesser Stone Golems hit hard and fast. Kill them one at a time and use crowd control on the rest.
Hall of Thanes bosses and how to handle them
Wowhead lists four bosses. A player comment on the guide also reports a lever in a vault after the last boss, which opens a door back to the first boss’s room. We have not confirmed it, but it could save a walk if you need to return.
| Boss | What to watch for | How to handle it |
|---|---|---|
| Faldrim Anvilmar | Patrols Anvilmar’s Rest. Casts Mind Blast and puts a 10-minute curse on the tank. | Remove the curse if you can. Kill him to complete An Ancient Grudge. |
| Magmatus | Arrives with a Dark Iron Summoner. Uses a fiery burst around itself and Combust on a random player. | Kill the Summoner first. Heal whoever is hit by Combust. |
| Plunder | Patrols a hallway. Knock Away throws the tank back. | Fight with the tank’s back to a wall. |
| Durgen Dirgehammer | The final boss, with two Lesser Stone Golems and looters nearby. Area Fear and Rend. | Clear the room carefully first. Be ready to recover after each Fear. |
Hall of Thanes loot and best rewards
Faldrim Anvilmar drops the Spiritwraith Drape, the Ephemeral Choker and the Aetherwisp Bracers, according to Wowhead. We have not found confirmed loot lists for the other three bosses yet.
The quest rewards are the main attraction. Wowhead picks out the Ironforge Greathammer and the Deepblaze wand from Old Ironforge Incursion, the Dwarven Tome from Important Heirlooms and the Catacomb Cloak from An Ancient Grudge.
Fitting the run into your levelling
For Alliance, Hall of Thanes fits naturally between Dun Morogh and Loch Modan. Pick up Old Ironforge Incursion at the quarry, collect the Old Ironforge quests on your way in, then hand everything in to Magni afterwards. Dungeon quests are where Forever’s dungeon experience is concentrated, so do the run once with every quest.
Our free routes do not include Hall of Thanes quests yet. Treat the run as a detour, and note where you left your route so you can pick it back up.
