WoW Forever Ruins of Lordaeron dungeon guide: quests, bosses and loot

Plan a Ruins of Lordaeron run in WoW Forever: how both factions get there, the quests to collect first, boss mechanics and loot, including Rotmender’s gear.

Ruins of Lordaeron at a glance

Ruins of Lordaeron, often shortened to RoL, is one of Forever’s two new dungeons for the opening level cap. It takes place in the ruined capital above the Undercity, where the Scourge still has a foothold. Blizzard lists it for levels 15–20.

Wowhead’s guide suggests 16–22 is more comfortable. Its Forever database lists the Horde quests at level 21–22, with requirements of 15 or 16. That makes it a strong run for a Horde character close to the level 20 cap.

How to get to Ruins of Lordaeron as Horde

The entrance is in the ruined city above the Undercity. Head south along the road from Brill into the ruins. They are on the way into the capital, so the run fits easily into a visit to train or hand in quests.

How to get to Ruins of Lordaeron as Alliance

Alliance players face a long journey through Horde territory. Wowhead’s route takes the boat from Stormwind Harbor to Auberdine, then the boat towards Menethil. Stay on board until Southshore.

From Southshore, take the road towards Hillsbrad Fields and head north past Dalaran. Swim north through Lordamere Lake into Tirisfal Glades, then follow the road to the entrance. Wowhead notes that Alliance Skyborne can shorten this with a portal to Dalaran from the Stormwind Mage Tower.

We have not tested this route. It passes Horde towns and guards, so take extra care on a PvP realm.

Ruins of Lordaeron quests

Collect these before you go. Three of the Horde quests start in the Undercity, so a visit to the Apothecarium is worth planning into your trip. Quest givers and rewards below come from Wowhead’s Forever database. Details marked from the guide come from Wowhead’s dungeon overview.

Light’s Justice is a good example of why these quests matter. The database lists 7,050 experience for it, alongside a choice of The Stitcher or Spare Part Bindings.

Ruins of Lordaeron bosses and how to handle them

Wowhead lists four main encounters and two optional events. None of them should trouble a prepared group, but a few abilities punish players who stand still.

EncounterWhat to watch forHow to handle it
WitherfangPatrols King’s Alley with two spiders. Uses Leech Poison.Clear the spiders and cleanse the poison from the tank.
The BaronKnockout, a heavy instant hit that also drops threat.Stun it when you can, and be ready to taunt or regain threat.
Viktor the Vile (optional)Starts when you light the chimney fire in the south-west building near the graveyard. Five waves come first.Save cooldowns for the boss. Cleanse his Leech Poison.
The Abandoned (optional event)Triggered at the statue on Market Street, with three waves. Frost Nova, a chill on melee attackers and Drain Life on the tank.Keep healing steady on the tank and move out of Frost Nova range if you can.
BjorkA short Anti-Magic Shield.Switch to physical damage or wait for the shield to drop.
Rath’maelFlamestrike, aimed where the tank stood when the cast began.Move out as soon as the cast starts, or interrupt it with a stun.

Ruins of Lordaeron loot

These drops come from Wowhead’s loot lists during the beta and may change. The quest rewards are often the bigger upgrade. Wowhead singles out The Stitcher, the Gnarled Necromancer’s Staff, the Slain Baron’s Signet ring and the Alliance Tarnished Locket.

BossNotable drops
WitherfangAtrophic Girdle (mail belt), Segmented Spider Leg (staff), Witherbite Bracers (leather)
The BaronMeathook Slicer (dagger), Abomination Bones (mail chest), Leftover Abomination Skin (cloth chest)
The AbandonedScepter of the Abandoned (one-hand mace), Grip of Fear (mail gloves), Rotmender’s Leggings (cloth legs)
Rath’maelMirror of Rath’mael (shield), Coldspire Staff, Rotmender’s Treads (cloth boots)

Rotmender’s Raiment: a new cloth set for healers

Two of the drops above belong to Rotmender’s Raiment, a five-piece cloth set datamined in the beta. The Leggings are item level 22, require level 17 and give 5 Stamina, 8 Intellect and 5 Spirit. We have not found confirmed sources for the Robes, Sash or Gloves yet.

The set bonuses lean towards healing casters. Beta values like these often change before launch.

PiecesBonus
2+10 Intellect
35% less threat
4Below 15% mana, restore 600 mana over 15 seconds, once every 5 minutes
5Healing spells have a 10% chance to heal the target for 40 every 3 seconds for 15 seconds

Fitting the run into your levelling

For Horde, the easiest plan is to collect the Brill and Undercity quests on a normal town visit, then run the dungeon once as a group. Pick up the Silverpine quest if you are passing The Sepulcher. Dungeon quests are where Forever’s dungeon experience is concentrated, so a first run with the full set is worth far more than repeat clears.

Our free routes do not include Ruins of Lordaeron quests yet. Treat the run as a detour, and note where you left your route so you can pick it back up.
