WoW Forever Hardcore: release plans, death and transfers
Hardcore comes after WoW Forever’s launch. Here is what is announced about death transfers, PvP destinations, Legacy Points and account collections.
When does WoW Forever Hardcore release?
Hardcore is planned after the main game’s launch. Blizzard’s recaps establish that sequence; Wowhead’s panel report describes a winter window. The sources checked here do not provide a specific Hardcore release day.
If your friends want to start together, decide whether the first shared character is for the main launch or for Hardcore later. Put those plans in separate calendar entries once dates are confirmed, so enthusiasm for one does not create an accidental commitment to both.
What happens when a Hardcore character dies?
The announced transfer route lets a dead Hardcore character continue on another ruleset, including PvP. It ends that character’s Hardcore run while offering a way to continue elsewhere.
For a regular party, agree on the social consequence as well as the character consequence. Would the survivors continue, would everyone restart, or would the group move on together where allowed? A short agreement before the first session is easier than deciding while someone is disappointed.
How do Legacy Points and collections work?
Hardcore has an incoming-progression boundary. Its accomplishments can carry outward, but progress and collections from other rulesets do not carry into Hardcore. That is the announced direction of account sharing.
| Your plan | What to account for |
|---|---|
| Play an ordinary character before Hardcore | Treat the time as practice and exploration, without budgeting inherited Hardcore bonuses. |
| Earn accomplishments during Hardcore | Review what becomes available elsewhere before planning another character around it. |
| Continue after a death | Check the current destination and transfer details when you need them. |
Can Hardcore players group with ordinary characters?
Hardcore is its own ruleset, so ordinary-rule characters cannot join its dungeon or raid groups. Faction separation also remains part of Forever’s grouping rules.
Make your group list explicit: character, faction, intended ruleset and availability. A friend offering to help on an ordinary character may mean well, but your plan needs characters that can actually participate together.
Should you start at launch or wait for Hardcore?
That depends on what you enjoy repeating. If discovering quests and practising controls are rewarding in themselves, an earlier character may be worthwhile. If the attraction is experiencing the world for the first time under Hardcore conditions, preserving that first journey may matter more to you.
For a mixed group, consider a modest shared activity before Hardcore rather than a demanding progression schedule. Pick a stopping point, allow people to opt out and avoid promising that everyone will repeat every session later.
The decision can be personal without becoming a class ranking. Ask whether you want practice, surprise, a long-term ordinary character or a dedicated survival challenge, then choose the plan that serves that goal.
Which rules still need clarification?
The recaps are enough to explain the broad death-transfer and account-sharing model. They do not settle every operational detail: the exact release day, all transfer conditions, the transfer interface and disconnect handling need their own confirmed documentation.
Keep those questions visible when organising a run. A future protection feature should be checked in its published rules before you rely on it to preserve a character. This guide will track announced policy separately from what our own testers observe.
