WoW Forever Hunter leveling: Aimed Shot, traps and keeping your distance
Learn when Hunters get Aimed Shot, how trap cooldowns work and how to handle enemies getting too close while leveling in WoW Forever.
A few old Hunter habits are worth revisiting
Blizzard’s September 30 deep dive confirms Aimed Shot is available to every Hunter at level 20. Arcane Shot no longer shares its cooldown, while Multi-Shot does. Traps can be used in combat, with separate Fire and Frost cooldowns of 30 seconds. They still appear at your feet, without a launcher.
For everyday questing, the useful questions are simple. Which shot fits this pull, where can you safely move, and which enemy needs to stay out of the fight?

Aimed Shot at 20 gives you a choice
The rank 1 tooltip lists a two-second cast, 75 Mana and 20 additional ranged damage. Multi-Shot arrives at level 18 and hits three targets. Both have a six-second cooldown, shared with each other.
Our advice is to keep them on separate buttons. Aimed Shot is worth considering when you have one target and time to cast. Before using Multi-Shot, look at what else is nearby, especially anything your party wants left alone. Do not plan to fire both immediately after each other.
There is no need to force a cast into every short fight. Watch your remaining Mana and the enemy’s health, then compare how the choice feels across several ordinary pulls.
Make room before an enemy reaches you
Aimed Shot and Concussive Shot both list a minimum range of eight yards. Concussive Shot becomes available at level 8 and slows movement by 50% for four seconds. Wing Clip, learned at 12, works in melee and slows by 50% for ten seconds.
That gives the two slows different jobs. Use the ranged option while you still have space. If something reaches melee, Wing Clip can help you move away. Check the ground behind you first. Escaping toward another pack only replaces one problem with a larger one.
Choose between damage and breathing room
Immolation Trap is learned at 16 and burns its first target. Freezing Trap arrives at 20 and stops the first enemy for up to ten seconds. Any damage breaks that freeze. Their tooltips allow one active trap of each category.
When you need a second enemy out of the fight, keep damage away from it. Tell your party which target you intend to freeze and send your pet elsewhere. A burning enemy is a poor choice for control that breaks on damage.
Practise placing a trap on a safe pull before relying on it in a crowded cave. Leave yourself somewhere to stand and a clear path back to the area you have already cleared.
Keep the quest route beside your character
Put newly learned abilities somewhere you can reach before leaving the trainer. For the journey between fights, choose Hunter in your written starting route. Wisp’s free beta also brings supported quest steps and directions into the game.
