WoW Forever Zephras Isle: how Alliance and Horde Skyborne quests differ
Choose the right Skyborne leveling route. Compare High Order and Windshaper stories, faction class options and where each journey leads after Zephras Isle.
The same island does not mean the same quest route
Skyborne choose Horde or Alliance at character creation. Both begin on Zephras Isle, which Blizzard describes as a level 1–12 starting experience, but their faction stories differ. Follow a guide for your chosen faction rather than treating the other Skyborne route as interchangeable.
Wowhead’s October 2 story feature explains that split through two groups: the Horde’s Windshapers and the Alliance’s High Order. This overview covers their setup and destinations without retelling the zone’s final confrontation.

Horde Skyborne follow the Windshapers
The Windshapers are led by Ayessa Dawnsinger. They want to restore their connection with the missing wind spirits and preserve their people’s way of life. Their relationship with the Earthen Ring leads them towards Kalimdor, with a Horde hub in Mulgore.
If that is the character you made, use the Horde Skyborne route below. The Alliance guide can describe familiar scenery while still sending you towards the wrong faction’s objectives.

Alliance Skyborne follow the High Order
The High Order is led by Elaadrin Evengale. Its answer to the island’s crisis is to recover arcane knowledge and become less dependent on the spirits. Its connection with the Kirin Tor leads towards the Eastern Kingdoms and an Alliance hub in Dalaran.
Choose the Alliance Skyborne route for this journey. Before a trip away from the island, check the destination written in your current quest rather than relying on another faction’s travel advice.

Class choice is another reason to decide together
Blizzard lists Warrior, Hunter, Rogue and Druid for both Skyborne factions. Horde Skyborne also have Shaman, while Alliance Skyborne have Mage. If you are starting with friends, settle the faction and classes before everyone creates a character.
| Skyborne faction | Shared classes | Additional class |
|---|---|---|
| Horde / Windshapers | Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid | Shaman |
| Alliance / High Order | Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid | Mage |
Make the guide match your character
On our written route pages, choose your class before working through class-specific steps. Check the quest name and giver when your progress differs from a friend’s. Being in the same place does not establish that you have the same prerequisites.
Wisp’s free leveling addon includes separate Alliance and Horde Skyborne starting routes. Pick the one for your character in the guide library. Keep the story moving at your own pace, with your next quest and directions close by.
For a first character, our recommendation is simple: choose the faction you want to play with and the class you want to learn. The story differences are a good reason to explore the other side on a later character, rather than rush through both now.
