Wisp is out of beta

Since the WoW Forever beta closed on 21 October, we have shipped 16 Wisp releases. Version 1.0.0 took Wisp out of beta on 2 November, and 1.1.0 brings a redesigned questing panel.

Many of these changes started with your beta reports and with our own playthroughs since. Here’s what’s new, why we’re asking everyone to update before playing, and a few words before launch.

New in Wisp 1.1

Wisp 1.1 brings:

  • A redesigned questing panel. Step text, titles and buttons line up on one edge, step badges take your theme’s colour, and pickups lead with the quest’s name. Trips, party play, class training and a paused guide each get their own card.
  • Party mode that works on Forever. When a party member uses Wisp, a party card offers Quest together or Share progress.
  • Any dungeon, any guide. Take a detour to any dungeon from the Dungeons page, with the quests you can take now suggested, then return to your route. The Undead 1–20 guide’s Ruins of Lordaeron trip is back.
  • Warrior, Rogue and Shaman talent plans for the reworked launch trees in build 1.60.1.70753, from Blizzard’s launch notes.
  • Route fixes from a review of every 1–20 guide’s quest order and both 20–35 guides. If you start a 20–35 guide without an earlier chain done, the guide takes you through it.

What we were working on is here

When the beta closed, we told you what we were working on next. All five are now in Wisp:

  • Customise Wisp your way

Settings in four tabs, Standard, Minimal and Large presets, and Edit layout to move the guide, browser and arrow. Choose the ForeverWisp, Blizzard, Alliance or Horde theme or make your own; themes apply straight away, with no reload. Appearance profiles work per character, and the panel can hide in combat.

  • Rebuilt levelling guides

All eight 1–20 starting routes and both 20–35 guides are rebuilt, with tighter hub order, earlier hand-ins and far less walking between zones. We then reviewed every guide again for quest order, pacing and step text.

  • Hearthstone suggestions

Each planned hearthstone bind is its own step, your new home is named as soon as you bind, and Wisp suggests your hearthstone whenever it beats the walk.

  • Smoother journeys

Fewer, longer chapters, level-20 handovers that no longer strand your last hand-ins, boat legs that show the way to the harbour, and learned flight paths that stay known when a flight map lists only some destinations.

  • Clearer steps and fixes

No step shows “Objective 1” any more, quest item buttons appear only while the item is in your bags, and Complete step moves you on to the hand-in. A Quest log full card suggests grey quests you could abandon.

More since the beta

Alongside those, you’ll find:

  • Level checks in place of Find XP, showing your actual XP against the suggested level. Joining a route late puts you at a sensible point instead of sending you back.
  • Your level-20 class quests at their own visits in the Alliance and Horde 20–35 guides, matched to your race and class.
  • Talent plans for all nine classes, updated for build 1.60.1.70707 with the 30 October hotfix. /wisp talents and the guide’s talent buttons now open one Talents screen.
  • An optional class training card when new ranks are waiting and one of your class trainers is nearby. Below level 20, Find trainer takes you to the nearest one.
  • Lighter hand-ins and level-ups. In our testing, the slowest level-up frame fell from 471 ms to 81 ms.
  • Gathering circuits drawn as a path on the world map, with a Track herbs or Track minerals button on the card.
  • Dungeon art on the Dungeons page, from artwork your game client already has.

Please update before you play

WoW Forever launches worldwide on 4 November at 3 pm PST, which is 11 pm in the UK. Before you log in, please update Wisp to the latest version. Older versions don’t have the fixes above, and the latest version is the one we fix.

We’re still improving Wisp. Through launch week, we’ll keep releasing fixes as we play the live game alongside you, and we’ll check the talent plans against the live trees. Check for a Wisp update before each session.

  • CurseForge: select your Forever installation and update ForeverWisp.
  • Manual download: close WoW, download the latest Wisp from our website and replace only the ForeverWisp folder in Interface/AddOns.
  • Bought a guide? Download your updated guide packs from My library too, even if you update Wisp through CurseForge.
  • At launch, check that Wisp is installed in the Forever installation you actually play. If Battle.net sets up a new one, install Wisp there too.
  • Keep your WTF folder and SavedVariables. They hold your Wisp settings and progress.

Tell us what you find

Once the game is live, Send feedback in the addon works again. Type /wisp feedback, describe what happened, then copy it into our feedback page. No account is needed.

Good luck out there

Thank you for testing with us through the beta, for every report and for your patience while we rebuilt the guides. Whether you’re racing through your starting zone on launch night or taking your time, good luck, have fun, and we’ll see you in Azeroth.
