WoW Forever mounts: riding level, cost and trainer locations
When you can ride in WoW Forever, how Blizzard changed mount costs, the datamined 20 gold and 200 gold mount prices and where each race’s riding trainer stands.
What level can you ride in WoW Forever?
Warcraft Tavern lists Apprentice Riding at level 40 and Journeyman Riding at level 60, the same levels as Classic. The bigger change is how you pay. Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap says Forever follows the Burning Crusade approach, moving the up-front cost into riding training and giving you a mount when you learn the skill.
The beta is currently capped at level 30, so none of this can be tested yet. Plan for it, but expect the numbers to move.

Reported riding and mount costs
Training costs are Warcraft Tavern’s figures. Mount prices come from WoW Forever Builds, which reported them from a datamine of the September 29 beta build 1.60.1.70094 and found prices on 18 mounts. Training costs are not visible in those files.
Do you need to buy the 20 gold mount?
Our reading is no, if training grants a mount as Blizzard describes. In that case the 100 gold training is the cost that matters at level 40, and the 20 gold vendor price only applies when you want a different mount. Blizzard has not confirmed which mount you receive.
| Skill | Level | Training (reported) | Mount price (datamined) | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Apprentice Riding | 40 | 100 gold | 20 gold | 60% |
| Journeyman Riding | 60 | 1,000 gold | 200 gold | 100% |
How much gold to save before level 40
Until Blizzard confirms prices, we suggest having about 100 gold ready when you reach level 40, plus the cost of your class training at that level.
- Reach Honored with your home faction first. Warcraft Tavern reports a 10% riding discount at Honored.
- Pick up a gathering profession early if gold is tight. Our goldmaking and professions guides cover which ones pay while you level.
- Treat the 20 gold mount price as optional until the granted mount is confirmed.
- Expect Journeyman Riding at 60 to be the real gold sink, at a reported 1,000 gold for training.
Riding trainer and mount vendor locations
Warcraft Tavern describes riding as a universal skill. Buying another race’s mount still needs Exalted reputation with that race. Names and coordinates are Warcraft Tavern’s, with the trainer listed first.
Other locations
Warcraft Tavern also lists Unger Statforth in Menethil Harbor, Wetlands (8.6, 54.3), for Human mounts. The Skyborne stable serves both factions.
| Race | Trainer and vendor | Location |
|---|---|---|
| Human | Randal Hunter (84.3, 64.9) and Katie Hunter (84.2, 65.5) | Eastvale Logging Camp, Elwynn Forest |
| Night Elf | Jartsam (38.4, 17.0) and Lelanai (38.6, 15.6) | Darnassus |
| Dwarf | Ultham Ironhorn (63.7, 50.1) and Veron Amberstill (63.5, 50.6) | Amberstill Ranch, Dun Morogh |
| Gnome | Binjy Featherwhistle (49.2, 48.1) and Milli (49.1, 48.0) | Steelgrill’s Depot, Dun Morogh |
| Skyborne | Genn Fairweather, Galestrider mounts (53.8, 81.2) | Fairweather Stables near Valanaar, Zephras Isle |
| Orc | Kildar (69.4, 13.1) and Ogunaro Wolfrunner (69.4, 12.2) | Orgrimmar |
| Troll | Xar’Ti (55.3, 75.5) and Zjolnir (55.2, 75.7) | Sen’jin Village, Durotar |
| Tauren | Kar Stormsinger (47.7, 58.5) and Harb Clawhoof (47.5, 58.6) | Bloodhoof Village, Mulgore |
| Undead | Velma Warnam (60.1, 52.6) and Zachariah Post (59.9, 52.7) | Brill, Tirisfal Glades |
Paladin, Warlock and Forsaken Paladin mounts
Warcraft Tavern reports that Paladins and Warlocks still earn their mounts through class quests. Undead Paladins, one of Forever’s new race and class combinations, have their own mount quests, and Wowhead’s datamined previews show skeletal horses for them.
We have not found a reliable step-by-step guide to those quests yet, and they sit above the current beta cap.
Other datamined mount notes
WoW Forever Builds says its article was drafted with AI from the datamine and then edited by its team. Treat these points as early client data, not confirmed rewards.
- The priced mounts include the Skyborne Galestriders, a set of crane mounts. The Empyrean, Regal, Stormy and Umber versions cost 20 gold, and their Swift versions cost 200 gold.
- The Pack Kodo and Spectral Bear have no price in the files, which points to reputation or another reward.
- The Winterspring Frostsaber’s epic speed appears to sit behind Honored with the Wintersaber Trainers.
What is not confirmed yet
Blizzard has described the cost model but not the gold figures.
- Final training costs for Apprentice and Journeyman Riding.
- Which mount you receive when you learn riding, and whether you can choose.
- Whether any reputation discount beyond the reported 10% at Honored applies.
- Whether prices change before launch, since datamined beta values are tuning numbers.
