WoW Forever weapon skills: weapon master locations, costs and class options
Where to train weapon skills in WoW Forever, what each class can learn, what training costs and how Blizzard changed weapon skill on gear and racials.
Where do you learn weapon skills in WoW Forever?
Weapon masters in the six original capital cities still teach weapon skills. Warcraft Tavern reports that each skill costs 10 silver and can be learned from level 1, except Polearms, which need level 20 and cost 1 gold. Faction reputation discounts apply.
The system itself has not been replaced. Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap says weapon skill behaves as it did before, but items now give less of it.

What changed about weapon skill
Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap keeps weapon skill but reduces how much of it items provide. New stats can lower the chance that your attacks are dodged or parried, hit and critical strike are unified, and caster weapons provide both spell damage and healing.
Warcraft Tavern’s panel report adds an example from a Deep Dive slide. Edgemaster’s Handguards give +1 weapon skill in Forever rather than +7. The Skills tab is still in the character pane, and its tooltip shows how your weapon skill compares with your target’s level.
Because the system is unchanged, a newly trained weapon type should still start at a low skill and miss more often. Train it before you need it and raise it on mobs below your level.
Racial weapon bonuses now add crit
Blizzard’s racial list gives each race two active and two passive abilities. None of them grants weapon skill, and Warcraft Tavern reports the same. Three races keep a weapon racial in a new form.
What this means for weapon choice
The bonus still rewards the matching weapon, but it adds crit rather than reducing misses and glancing blows the way extra weapon skill did in Classic. Bow and gun racials do not appear in Blizzard’s list, so Trolls and Dwarves no longer get a racial reason to favour bows or guns.
| Race | Weapon racial in Forever |
|---|---|
| Human | Sword Specialization: +2% critical strike chance with swords |
| Orc | Axe Specialization: +1% critical strike chance with axes |
| Dwarf | Mace Specialization: +1% critical strike chance with maces |
Rogue weapon changes
Blizzard’s Rogue deep dive confirms that Rogues can learn one-handed axes. The Hack and Slash talent replaces the separate Dagger, Mace, Sword and Fist specializations and adds axes. Axes gain the sword-style chance for an extra attack, and maces ignore part of the target’s armour instead of stunning. Weapon Expertise is redesigned to reduce the target’s chance to dodge and parry.
Training tips while leveling
These tips are our advice, based on the reported costs and locations.
- Budget 10 silver per skill, or 1 gold for Polearms at level 20, before any reputation discount.
- Plan your capital visit. Horde characters often need Undercity or Thunder Bluff for swords, polearms, guns and maces, and Alliance characters need Darnassus for Bows.
- Train a new weapon type a few levels before you expect to equip it, so its skill can catch up on easier mobs.
- Weapon swap macros work again. Blizzard’s October 8 notes restored swapping several weapons within one global cooldown, such as moving from a two-handed weapon to a sword and shield.
What we could not confirm
Warcraft Tavern’s trainer guide is undated, so a later beta build could move a trainer or change a cost. It lists two-handed axes and maces for Shamans, but we have not found an official note on whether a talent is still needed first.
Weapon skill tooltips, trainer stock and racials are all beta values. We will update this guide when Blizzard confirms changes.
