The proposed Frost levelling build

This Frost-first plan is for controlled single-target questing. It reaches Ice Barrier before taking Arcane utility, ending at 20/0/31. It deliberately leaves out an Improved Blizzard farming package. Players who want to gather large packs need a separate allocation, pull method and survival test.

At level 60, the allocation is 20/0/31 in the tree order shown below. The table assumes a fresh character with no Talented Legacy ranks and spends one point each level from 10 to 60. Point 31 is Ice Barrier at level 40.

Mage talent order, level by level

Read from top to bottom. A level range means spend one point per level in that talent; the rank range shows your resulting ranks, not extra points to add all at once. Repeated talents resume an earlier investment. This order checks the published tier gates and prerequisites without requiring a respec.

The level-60 endpoint is a planning target, not a claim that the current beta level cap lets you reach it. If you already have a different allocation, compare the prerequisites before copying the next row.

10–14Improved Frostbolt · 1–5/5 (Frost)Begin with the main cast.
15–19Ice Shards · 1–5/5 (Frost)Build towards a critical-focused Frost plan.
20Ice Lance · 1/1 (Frost)Add the attack used with frozen-target windows.
21–23Frost Channeling · 1–3/3 (Frost)Address repeated Frost casting costs.

28Ice Block · 1/1 (Frost)Add an emergency defensive button.

30Cold Snap · 1/1 (Frost)Take the prerequisite for Ice Barrier.
31–32Fingers of Frost · 1–2/2 (Frost)Add a proc to the single-target plan.
33Arctic Reach · 2/2 (Frost)Complete the earlier range investment.

35–39Winter's Chill · 1–5/5 (Frost)Support repeated attacks on one target.
40Ice Barrier · 1/1 (Frost)Reach the main questing shield.
41–42Wand Specialization · 1–2/2 (Arcane)Keep a low-Mana finishing option.
43–45Arcane Focus · 1–3/5 (Arcane)Bridge into Arcane; this does not improve Frost hit chance.
46–50Arcane Concentration · 1–5/5 (Arcane)Invest in Clearcasting for the mixed toolkit.
51–52Arcane Subtlety · 1–2/2 (Arcane)Choose resistance support on the way down the tree.
53–54Magic Absorption · 1–2/2 (Arcane)Use bridge points for magical defence.
55Arcane Blast · 1/1 (Arcane)Add an optional mixed-school experiment.
56–58Arcane Meditation · 1–3/3 (Arcane)Prioritise sustain after reaching this tier.
59Missile Barrage · 1/1 (Arcane)Add another proc to watch after Frostbolt.
60Arcane Resilience · 1/2 (Arcane)Use the final point for passive defence.

How to approach solo questing with this build

Start fights with a clear line of retreat and enough distance to make another decision before the enemy reaches you. Build a routine around Frostbolt, then introduce the talents that create or reward frozen-target windows. Save an escape option instead of using every control tool in the opener.

Ice Lance, Shatter and Fingers of Frost belong to the same proposed single-target idea. Practise noticing the relevant window while still watching the enemy. Ice Block, Cold Snap and Ice Barrier add defensive decisions; check which button solves the immediate problem before chaining cooldowns.

The Arcane follow-up has a cost: three Arcane Focus points support Arcane spells, not Frost hit chance. That is a bridge toward Clearcasting and later utility, with Arcane Blast as an optional mixed-school experiment. If you never use those tools, compare a deeper Frost allocation rather than treating the final split as mandatory.

Dungeon play and alternative talent choices

For dungeon damage, follow marked targets and agree on crowd control. A freeze or attack against a second target can change the pull for the whole party. This plan should first be evaluated on single targets before drawing conclusions about dungeon area damage.

A Blizzard farming build needs different decisions about slows, roots, terrain and pack size. A Fire or Arcane levelling build changes the resource and control assumptions again. Compare complete sessions, including drinks and failed pulls, rather than selecting a winner from one large damage number.

Adjusting the order for the Talented Legacy perk

Wowhead’s calculator models Talented ranks 1–5 as moving the first talent point from level 10 down to levels 9–5, while keeping the maximum at 51. Under that model, subtract your Talented rank from every level in the order above. For example, with rank 3, the first point is at level 7 and point 31 is at level 37.

This shifts the proposed point schedule; it does not award more than 51 points or prove that every associated ability is available earlier. The default plan assumes rank 0. Use only the rank actually active on your character and verify the rules in the client.

Earlier access to talent points does not prove earlier training for Frostbolt ranks, Frost Nova or other supporting spells. Check the actual spellbook before expecting the shifted build to have the complete control toolkit.

Open the build and compare the calculators

The populated ForeverChanges link opens this guide’s final level-60 allocation. Use the order above for the journey to that endpoint. The separate Wowhead link opens the class calculator so you can inspect and experiment with its tree; it is not a prefilled copy of this build.

At review, Wowhead still displayed a BlizzCon-footage data warning. This guide uses the newer build-attributed extract for talent constraints. If a calculator shows a different rank, position or prerequisite, stop at that difference and check its source date instead of forcing the allocation to fit. Saved links can also change meaning when an external calculator updates its trees.

What needs checking in the Forever client

Record the client build, level, talents, equipment and enemies before comparing two choices. Use several similar pulls, and include travel, recovery, interruptions and deaths. Keep solo observations separate from dungeon results. The checks below are the specific questions this proposal should answer.

  • Mana spent and drinking time across comparable pulls.
  • Whether frozen-target and proc windows are used consistently.
  • How often defensive cooldowns are needed, and whether an escape remains available.

Mage levelling talent questions

Is this the best Mage levelling build? It is a complete, sourced proposal for controlled single-target casting. We have no comparative Forever playtests that establish it as the fastest or safest choice.

Can I follow it without Legacy perks? Yes: the main order uses no Talented ranks and allocates all 51 points from levels 10–60. You can adjust the schedule with the separate Legacy table.

Does Wisp select these talents in game? No. This is a free website guide. The current addon does not provide this talent recommendation system or spend talent points for you. Its available routes and testing status are described on the addon page.
